Cataldo Joseph Giumento, 81, of Coatesville passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at his home.
Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Carmen and Frances Prazych Giumento. He was the husband of Diane M. Voltz Giumento with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Joe was a 1967 graduate of East Stroudsburg University and obtained a Master’s degree from Penn State University in 1975. He served for 6 years with the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Infantry.
He taught Sixth Grade for 37-1/2 years in the Upper Merion School District and was the Upper Merion Varsity Basketball Coach. During his coaching career, the team won the PIAA District 1, 4A Championship during the 92-93 season; and he was the only coach to win this distinction for Upper Merion. He earned the Coach of the Year award for that season. Additionally, he was an Athletic Director for Upper Merion and a member of the PA Athletic Directors Association.
Joe was avid reader, crossword puzzler, golfer and enjoyed watching sports on TV; especially the Yankees, Pirates, Eagles, golf and college basketball. Spending time at his Florida home, visiting with friends, dancing with his wife and time with his family and grandchildren brought him much joy.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, Diane is a son, Joseph C. Giumento; three grandchildren, Philip and Joseph Stratton and Ryann Giumento, and a brother, Michael Giumento and his wife Shiela.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Giumento Stratton.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
