Allen Davis Obituary

Allen Larry Davis’s journey came to an end on February 24, 2025, at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Allen was born in March 1945 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and graduated from Downingtown High School in 1963. He worked as a child at Highland Orchard and lived in Coatesville and the surrounding area. Following his graduation from high school, Allen enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963. After attaining the rank of Staff Sergent, he separated from service in 1973. Allen traveled extensively, living in Japan, the Philippines and visiting Greater Asia and Europe. He returned to the United States and attended Temple University.

He met and married the love of his life, Lucy Acosta, in March 1974.  They were married for 50 years. They hiked through the Alps, drove the Alaskan Highway and shared their lives with one another. His career included work as a journalist, photographer, and editor for the Coatesville Record, co-owner of Sun Ledger and Coatesville Ledger newspapers. He also owned the Coatesville Free Press and later the Chestercountyreporter.com. He was a proud member of the NAACP.

He always sought justice and promoted equality and spent his life in service to the Coatesville community. But first and foremost, he deeply loved his wife.

Allen was preceded in death by his father John B. Davis, his mother, Virginia Baker Davis, his sister, Terry Harris Forest, and his son, Allen L. Davis Jr. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Acosta, brother, Greg Davis, and sons, Thaddeus G. Acosta-Davis, James A. Acosta-Davis, and Zachariah B. Acosta-Davis; his daughters, Estella A. Acosta-Davis and Keren M. Acosta-Davis.  His grandchildren, Donnika Davis, Matilda Acosta Davis, Henry Acosta-Davis, Noah Acosta-Kettering, Thatcher Acosta- Kettering, and Lilly Acosta-Kettering and great-grandchild, Emerson L. McEntire.
