Anthony Genaro Obituary

Anthony J. Genaro "Tony", 96, of Coatesville, died Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Chester County Hospital, West Chester following a short illness.

He was the loving and devoted husband of Elizabeth "Betty Lee" Simmers Genaro with whom he shared 61 years of marriage this month.

Born in Downingtown, he was the son of the late Angelo and Antoinette Mentto Genaro.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.  

For most of his life, Tony was a 5th Grade teacher in the Coatesville Area School District at Friendship Elementary School.  He was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.  He was a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 133 and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 34 in Compass.  In his free time, he loved gardening, playing games, spending time with his grandchildren, and was an avid history buff.

Surviving him, in addition to his wife, Betty Lee; are his children, Anthony J. "Joe", Andrew M. (Debbie), Mary Beth Spitz, and Benjamin G. (Tina); five grandchildren, Brittany Melton, Breana Genaro, Kevin Genaro, Tianna Spitz and Nicholas Genaro and two brothers, Frank Romano and Tom Francis.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Angeline Banks, Josephine Biggers and Carol Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Avenue, Coatesville, where relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetey, Coatesville.
