Betty Brennan Obituary

Betty Elaine Brennan, 94, was called home on Thursday, July 16, 2020, passing peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Elsie (Detterline) Whiteman.
Betty was the first female firefighter in Coatesville, becoming a lifetime member and fighting a warehouse fire on the first night she was taken in by Washington Fire Company. She was also a lifetime member and President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for Brandywine and West End Fire Companies, and Ladies’ Auxiliary President of Knights of Columbus.
Over her lifetime, she became a familiar face to many, working at the Famous Restaurant for 50 years. She served as County Registrar, writing death certificates for local funeral directors. She also spent 12 years working in the laundry room at Chester County Hospital. Her final job before retiring was coffee hostess at Wawa. Betty was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Coatesville. She had a passion for cooking and baking; a few of her specialties include potato salad, spaghetti sauce, and pizzelles. She loved sharing her delicious talents with others.
Betty is survived by 3 daughters, Fonda Pyfer of Downingtown, Jean Higgins of Florida, and Jami Sue Brennan of Coatesville, 4 grandchildren, Michael Frederick of Florida, Sara Rupert of Parkesburg, Emily and Jack Hadfield of Coatesville, and 2 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Vinny of Florida. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Clair (Mike) Whiteman of Downingtown, Richard (Dick) Whiteman of Atglen, and many nieces and nephews.
“I will cling to the old rugged Cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.”
