Betty Lorene Winkler, 92, formerly of North Vernon, Indiana, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 17, 2020, where she had resided at Hickory House Nursing Home, in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania
She was born on April 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Ray and Jewell Anderson in Jennings County, Indiana. She was united in marriage to Lloyd David Winkler on December 23, 1944, who preceded her in death in 2004. They were the proud parents of nine children. Their son, John Joel Winkler preceded her in death on August 25, 2016.
She is survived by her eight children: Lloyd Jr. (Margaret), Larry (Dottie), Danny (Patti), Arthur (Dorothy), Leslie (Kathy), Betty Ann Hundley (Estel), Shirley Forbes (Ed), Mary Greer (Mark). She is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
In her spare time, she enjoyed going shopping, reading and playing Skippo and eating sweets. She also loved visiting with family and road trips. She was a seamstress for their family upholstery business for over 30 years. She also enjoyed being a hostess at Ingleside Diner in Thorndale as well as O'Grady's Family Restaurant.
She always had a smile and never met a stranger. She will be sadly missed. Perhaps one of the most difficult things she ever had to endure as she aged was the loss of her ability to live independently. Until she was unable to speak, she continued talking about going back home. Mom loved telling people what they needed to do. She was very opinionated. Be thankful. Get outside and get some fresh air. Get you something more to eat! Do not waste that life.
This beautiful soul, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma…is no longer suffering in this earthly life. As we say goodbye, we also say ‘thank you’. God has blessed us by sharing her with us for so many years, years filled with love, laughter and life lessons. For that, we are eternally grateful. May our life be blessed in generations to come.
She may be gone but she will NEVER be forgotten.
Always cherished. Always loved. Always missed.
