Dolores H. Bernard, lovingly known as Dolly, passed away peacefully at her assisted living home in Northern Virginia on February 8, 2025, where she had resided since leaving Clearwater, Florida, in 2016.
Born on February 20, 1933, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Dolly’s life was one of warmth, faith, and devotion. After graduating from Scott High School, she began working at Lukens Steel Company, where fate introduced her to her loving husband, John F. Bernard, Sr. Their love story spanned 65 beautiful years until John’s passing in 2017.
Dolly’s legacy lives on through her son, John F. Bernard, Jr. (Pam) of Asheville, NC, and her daughter, Connie Harding (Bob) of McLean, VA. She also leaves behind cherished siblings, Jonnye Jaye Kaminsky Terry (Michael), Marlene Hamer Sontchi (Gary), Linda Hamer Gindin, and Jimmy Hamer (Deb). Her family grew through the years with the arrival of four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A woman of deep faith, Dolly found strength and fellowship in her church communities in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Virginia. Her involvement in these congregations nurtured her spirit and built lifelong friendships, reflecting the kindness and generosity that defined her. Above all, Dolly will be remembered for the love she poured into her family and friends. Her gentle grace, unwavering faith, and radiant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her beauty, both inside and out, will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to share in her life.
Dolly’s family will hold a private service in Pennsylvania to honor her memory.
