Donald Carlton Anderson, 89, of West Chester, PA, beloved father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at home.
Born on October 13, 1934 in Middletown, CT, Donald was the son of the late Theodore and Esther (Johnson) Anderson and the brother of the late Merwin Anderson. Don’s childhood home was next door to Wesleyan University, and he had many fond memories of roaming the campus with his friends playing in the gym and on the fields of the campus. One of his first jobs as a child was shining shoes for military officers on the campus for five cents. Don later graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering and received his Master’s degree from Rensselaer. In college, Don, nicknamed “Andy,” was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Don was a life-long fan of UConn women’s basketball and enjoyed attending some of their games over the years.
Don had a successful career of over 30 years as an aerospace engineer at the GE Space Center (later Lockheed Martin) in Philadelphia and Valley Forge, PA which included work on the Strategic Defense Initiative Program in the 1980s.
His children enjoy many memories of Don coaching their Little League teams, working around their childhood home in Paoli, tending his garden, maintaining the trees in the backyard, cooking Swedish sausage and doing household projects. Don loved fishing and enjoyed several deep-sea fishing trips with his children as adults. Don was an avid golfer and worked at the Westover Country Club as a starter for many years after his retirement.
Donald was proceeded in death by his loving wife Kenette. He is survived by his four children: Kirk Anderson (Beth) of Hingham, MA, Paul Anderson (Lynne) of West Chester, PA, Lynn Gluck (Paul) of Paoli, PA, Eric Anderson (Mori) of Malvern, PA and seven grandchildren.
There will be a private interment at Oaklands Cemetery in West Chester.
