Edgar V. “Skip” Simmers, 79, of Coatesville passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Clarence and Virginia Gay Simmers.
He was the husband of Jessica Gilmore Simmers with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Skip was a 1962 graduate of S. Horace Scott High School and a graduate of DeVry Institute of Electrical Design. He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam with the 23rd Infantry, 25th Division from 1966 to 1967 and finished his Army service in the 82nd Airborne Division.
After his military service, he was employed as an Electrical Design Engineer. His career was with several firms but lastly with Parsons Power where he was a member of the company golf team.
He was a member of Gateway Church, the Thorndale Fire Company, West End Fire Company and the Moose Lodge. His interest also included classic cars and drag racing at Cecil County and Maple Grove Raceway. He was the proud owner of a 1963 Chevy Impala. This interest in cars translated into traveling with his wife across the U.S. and Canada and camping at Bayshore campground in Rock Hall, Maryland. Skip was a member of the Square Shooters Hunting Camp in Slate Run, PA where many years were spent with family and friends creating lasting memories.
Surviving him in addition to his wife, Jessica are two daughters, Kimberly Simmers Spotts (Michael) “Sween” Swarner and Jennifer Simmers Boninu (Steve); and three grandchildren, Aeriale and Jesse Spotts and Jewel Boninu. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence (Sonny) Simmers, Gene Simmers, Donny Simmers, Katherine Murphy, Tom Simmers and Albert (Bert) Simmers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2023 at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg, PA 19365. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at Gateway Church.
