Edward Montoro Obituary

Edward Thomas Montoro, 85, lifetime resident of Coatesville, died peacefully on November 28, 2016 while on a hunting trip. Doing what he loved, he was trailing his last buck, shot on the opening morning of the season.
Edward was the son of the late Francis Montoro and Mary Russo-Montoro who both immigrated to the United States from Italy and Sicily respectively.
He was the last living sibling of 11 children; preceded in death by brothers, Harry, Alfred, Joseph, Philip, Raymond, Richard, Robert and sisters, Irene, Dorothy, and Jean.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife and mother of their 5 children, Dorothy Louise Auer-Montoro who died in June of 2011. At the time of her death, Edward and Dorothy were married for 59 years.
He is survived by a son, Mark Montoro, husband of Nadine; four daughters, Susan Moorhead, wife of Jim; Bridget Doan, wife of Randy; Heidi Eagles, wife of Matt Marcelli; and Noelle Raytik, wife of Michael. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Joshua, Patricia, Earl, Mark, Rachel, Randy, Michael, Krystin, Katie and Matthew; six great grandchildren, Mia, Cora, Coda, Kyle, Lana, and Mason, numerous nieces, nephews and family pets that will miss him dearly.
"Monk" was a 1950 graduate of S. Horace Scott High School where he was a member of the swim & diving team, T-square & Angle Club, and Biology Club.
He was previously employed by Medford Dunleavy & Coatesville Scrap & Iron. He and his wife, Dorothy, later opened and operated the Western Auto Store in Coatesville for 15 years. Before retiring, he worked alongside his son-in-law for Randy E. Doan Framing.
Ed was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He was a former president and active member of the Chester Valley Swim Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of nature. Compassionate to all animals, there was not a feathered or furry critter alive that ever went hungry in his presence.
He loved being surrounded by his family and friends, making sure that everyone's needs were met and never failing to be there to lend a helping hand. He was always quick to share how proud he was of his family. He will be remembered by all for his infectious smile, and his caring and generous spirit.
A "Celebration of Life" Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Avenue, Coatesville, PA 19320.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
In Edward's memory, contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at the above address or LaMancha Animal Rescue at PO Box 656, Unionville, PA 19375.
