Fonda Pyfer Obituary

Fonda Joy Pyfer, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 16, 2021 after a valiant battle with illness surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Betty (Whiteman) Brennan.

She graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1963. After attending hair dressing school, she spent eleven years working at Pepperidge Farm in Downingtown, and another eleven years working at Bell Telephone Company in West Chester, before choosing to stay home and raise her family. She was a dedicated Brandywine Wallace Elementary homeroom mother, extraordinary lunch packer, play date coordinator, dance lesson chauffeur, family organizer, and loyal home-cooked dinner provider; a do-it-all domestic superwoman. Her hobbies included reading romance novels, magazines and cookbooks, watching sitcoms, reality TV and cooking shows. She loved music and dancing; George Strait was her favorite cowboy.

It is no coincidence that Fonda’s middle name was Joy, because that is who she was. Her friendly personality invited an instant connection with everyone she met; to know her was to love her. She was the epitome of class and charm. She radiated warmth and wit, and these traits were unwavering through her life. Fonda loved to laugh and share stories; recounting family fables to everyone’s amusement throughout her years. Her smile and laughter were infectious. Fonda had a way of making everything nicer; her magic touch added the color to our world. She delighted in making people feel special, and seeing the smiles she would create with her thoughtful nature. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate someone and would turn even the smallest accomplishment into a Hallmark-worthy occasion. She was always the one cheering the loudest for her family.

Fonda devoted her life to caring for others. She formed a close bond with her Aunt Jean, and became her caregiver until 2013. She also cared for her father and mother throughout their years. While she only had one child of her own, she played irreplaceable roles in the lives of her sister, nephews and niece, and the lives of so many others. She would go to the ends of the earth for her loved ones; she meant so much to so many. On each side of the family, friends and acquaintances alike, she was the glue that kept us all connected.

Fonda is survived by her adoring husband of 38 years Joe, of Downingtown, and her daughter Sara Elaine Rupert (Clint and grand-dog Scout - her “pookie duke”) of Parkesburg, her sister Jami Sue Brennan and her niece and nephew Emily and Jack Hadfield of Coatesville. She is also survived by her sister Jean Marie Higgins, nephew/godson Michael Frederick, and his sons Anthony and Vinny, all of Florida. Additionally, she is survived by countless cousins, brothers-, sisters-, nieces-, and nephews-in-law, and dear friendships both new and life-long.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the Harris Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville where relatives and friends may pay their respects from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville.

Please note that masks and social distancing rules will be adhered to at the funeral home.

Fonda’s family would like to extend our most sincere appreciation for everyone at Chester County Hospital on the Ambulatory Care Center and Interventional Radiology teams who supported her through weekly treatment and became like family over her nearly three years in their care. They went beyond the call of their duty to make her comfortable and keep her well, and we could not be more grateful to them.

We are confident that Fonda’s wishes would be to give back to those who cared for her. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in her memory, making sure to note her name so the funds can benefit the ACC and IR teams.
