Frederick A. Ford Jr

Frederick A. Ford, Jr., 95, formerly of Upper Darby died Monday, July 23, 2018 at Hamilton Arms, Lancaster.
He was the husband of Audrey D. Wisner Ford sharing 40 years of marriage.
Born in Upper Darby, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Helen Schreiber Ford, Sr.
Fred spent much of his childhood at Girard College where he studied printing. A life-long supporter of Girard College, Fred often visited the College to relive happy memories and to see how the school was meeting the needs of today's students.
Shortly after graduating in 1941, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Fred proudly served in the Pacific theatre as a telecommunications specialist achieving the rank of sergeant. Although Fred left the service at the end of the war, he always considered himself a Marine and regularly attended reunions with members of his unit.
Fred built a successful career in sales and advertising after the war. He spent many years working for the North American Publishing Company in Philadelphia and New York.
Fred would read the newspaper from the first to last page every day with a special focus on the sports section. He also loved to read the World Almanac to learn interesting facts that he would share with family and friends. He enjoyed music especially from the Big Band era.
Fred enjoyed sports. He played soccer as a child and later coached a youth team. Fred was life-long fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers.
Surviving him, in addition to his loving wife, Audrey; are three sons, Girard, Frederick, III and Jonathan. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Harris Mountain Funeral & Cremation Service, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville. Graveside service and military honors will begin at 10 a.m., at Fairview Cemetery, 786 Oak St., Coatesville.
