George Gus Giannaris, 95, of Coatesville passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 20, 2026. Born in Coatesville, PA, he was the son of immigrant Greek parents; the late Gus Giannaris and Vivian (Makris) Giannaris.
George graduated from Staunton Military Academy in 1947, then joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After his military service, he attended Suffolk University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1957.
George came back home to his beloved Coatesville and raised his family. He retired from Lukens Steel Company and pursued his dream of training horses and racing.
Everyone who knew George knew his passion in life was Harness Horse racing and traveling with his son to race their horses. Most of all, he was proud of his beautiful farm and building his quarter-mile track so he and friends could jog their horses. He lived his life outdoors, taking care of his farm and animals. It truly was his Blue Bird of Happiness!
He is survived by his son, Peter Giannaris; his daughters, Denise Ciarlone and Stacy Yost (Daniel), and brother James Giannaris. George had 5 grandchildren, Peter David, Willian Nickolus (Malori), George Joshua Giannaris, Gabrielle Diane Kauffman (Jonathan) and Abigail Stacy Vigna (Evan) and 6 great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his daughters, Diane Mackall and Daphne Giannaris; brother, Peter Giannaris and three sisters, Mary Christopher, Helen Sushinski and Theodora Kerykou and his beloved partner, Carol Amole.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
