Joseph Paul Hess Sr., 92, of West Caln, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Country Meadows of Lancaster.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Ross B. and Marie Dailey Hess.
He was a 1947 graduate of Scott High School where he played baseball and football.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years during the Korean War. Joe was employed by Lukens Steel Company as a Supervisor in the Machine and Forge Shop for 42 years.
He served as the West Caln Township Supervisor from 1974 to 1979 and 1990 to 2007. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.
Joe loved to be outdoors. He also enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee, and smoking cigars. He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his family and community.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea O’Leary (David), four grandchildren, Rachel O’Leary of West Caln, Erin O’Leary of West Caln, Julie Hess of Pittsburgh, and Michael Hess of Chester Springs. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline and son, Joseph Jr. in 2011; brothers, Albert Hess, John Hess; and sisters, Agnes Franciscus, Margaret Fuller, Marie Neff, and Elizabeth March.
Relatives and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Harris Mountain Funeral & Cremation Service, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville.
Funeral service and interment will be private.
