Joseph Meredith, IV Obituary

Joseph Llewellyn Meredith IV, 84, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home with his loved ones by his side on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Joseph, known as Jay by his family and friends, was born on December 11, 1941, and graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High School in 1960. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964 when he was honorably discharged. Jay worked as Vice President of his father’s business, Brandywine Loan, for 20 years. He then entered a career in sales in 1982 at Crescent Box Corporation, where he became a top outstanding salesman for several decades. He was known for his sense of humor and outspoken personality. From Coatesville Country Club greens (where he attained the rare achievement of a hole in one) to his beloved Philadelphia Eagles tailgates and games, Jay was always the life of the party. In the warm summer months, you could find him on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. His favorite spot to be was on the beach with a cold drink in his hand.

Jay was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. Son of the late Joseph L. Meredith III (2004) and Dorothy F. Meredith (2006), he is survived by his wife Barbara; three children, Jennifer Pfeffer (George), Joseph L. Meredith V, and Rachel DiRosario (Taylor); two grandchildren, Kevin Pfeffer (Gina) and Christopher Pfeffer; four great grandchildren; a brother, Jeffrey Meredith (Sandy); two nieces and a nephew; and six great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private.

In Jay’s memory, contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice, 2 Campus Boulevard, Suite 200, Newtown Square, PA 19073
