Richard C. “Rick” Berger, 80, died peacefully on December 16, 2025, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love and support of his family.
Born on October 1, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA, Rick was the only child of Charles S. Berger, Jr. and Elizabeth J. Davis Berger. He was the devoted husband of Vickie (Backstetter) Berger for 56 years, the loving father of Ellen R. Berger, and the proud grandfather of Dominic M. Berger. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen C. Berger. Rick made his home in Chester County for much of his life, residing for 27 years in Wagontown and later for 27 years in Elverson.
Rick graduated from Villanova University in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent the entirety of his professional career with the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO), serving in roles including Electric Operations Manager, Gas Superintendent, Superintendent of Technical Services, and Division Engineer. After retiring in 1995, he continued to share his expertise as a consultant for an additional two years.
In retirement, Rick dedicated much of his time to service. He volunteered for seven years with the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) as an English as a Second Language tutor, served on the Elverson Borough Council, and was an active member of the Twin Valley Rotary Club as a tutor for at-risk students attending Twin Valley Elementary Center. Among his most meaningful experiences was participating in a Rotary-sponsored trip to Peru, where he served as a non-medical volunteer assisting children born with cleft palates.
Rick will be remembered for his sharp wit, his love of reading, and his deep commitment to documenting family history and preserving family photographs. Above all, he will be cherished for the unwavering love and joy he brought to his grandson, Dominic.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
