Walter Patton Obituary

Walter L. Patton, 89, formerly of Coatesville, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He shared 56 years of marriage with his first wife, Elizabeth E. Bedwell Patton, who preceded him in death in 1996 and 3 years of marriage with Sarah McWilliams Patton, who preceded him in death in 2001. Born in Stottsville, PA, on September 29, 1919, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Bessie Springer Patton. Walter was a veteran of WWII and served with the 3rd Army throughout France and Germany. He was employed as an electrician with the former Lukens Steel Company, retiring with 42 years of service. Walter was a member of the Moose Lodge in Coatesville for many years and a life member of the VFW Downingtown Post #845. He was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with family members. Surviving him are a son, W. Donald, husband of Barbara Earnshaw Patton of Lancaster; a daughter, Marylyn J. Schaeffler, wife of Leo of Catonsville, MD; a sister, Ruth Patton Wertz of Coatesville; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Patton Linnenbaugh, seven brothers, Robert, Ernest, Arnold, Leo, Harry, Jr., Ralph and Richard, and a granddaughter Brenda L. Patton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery, Coatesville. In his memory, contributions may be made to The Charlotte Hall Veterans Assistance Fund, c/o Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, 29449 Charlotte Hall Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
